An Artist with a focus on imaginative realism/surrealism!
One of the most meaningful creative exercises I ever did was during a public-school art class. We were impulsively told to gather a pencil, eraser and clip board and follow our teacher into the adjacent forest. We were told to find a spot near a tree we liked, get comfortable and draw it. I became aware and felt connected to that enduring life force that lives in any forest. This exercise was designed to bypass or switch off the analytical side of the mind. I felt myself sink into the rhythm of our natural surroundings on a subconscious level. Even today, I feel the energy of that tree and intensely recall how otherworldly the forest felt. The act of nestling in the roots and drawing that tree changed me and how I would contemplate experiences forever. The magical element that I encountered is what I endeavor to capture on canvas to this day. Every tree and every being has a unique life force or energy. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to sit and listen with my heart and all my senses. When I pick up a paint brush or prep a canvas, I do so with the care and attention to detail. When creating art, I like to tap into that quiet, magical and mysterious place in my mind. I try to lose myself and absorb the subject’s aura in an attempt to capture it on canvas. I am still sitting in that canopy covered forest, nestled in those roots at the base of that tree. The tree and I have both evolved, its roots deeper into the ground and mine deeper into the subconscious. Learning to give myself to my art and trying to visually translate what is felt or thought is what I aim for. Pursuing art with that mystifying connection, without logic or reason and being able to create works that fulfill the essence of that cherished aspiration remains my goal to this day.
My works have shipped worldwide to collectors and art enthusiasts alike with destinations such as Australia, , Brazil, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, The United States, and even the UK!
